Bruce returns to Broadway - as KING HEROD - in the Stratford Shakespeare Festival production of JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, directed by Des McAnuff, choreographed by Lisa Shriver, as presented by Dodger Properties and The Really Useful Group. First Preview March 1st - Opening March 22, 2012 - Neil Simon Theatre, 250 West 52nd Street, New York.
This production originated at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival as part of their 2011 season, and continued on to the La Jolla Playhouse.
2011 brought Bruce before New York audiences, on screen - as TRINCULO - when Symphony Space and BY Experience presented the US theatrical premiere of THE TEMPEST, starring Christopher Plummer (see below); and on stage - as PRISMATIC - in the first NYC reading of Neil Wechsler's Yale Drama Award winning play, GRENADINE, at Theatre for the New City, presented by Common Tongue.
2010 saw Bruce complete a successful run as "Pseudolus" in A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM at Toronto's Canon Theatre, directed by Des McAnuff and choreographed by Wayne Cilento. He also had the great honour of appearing at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival as "Trinculo" in THE TEMPEST, starring Christopher Plummer, which was filmed by Melbar Entertainment and Bravo! for release in Cineplex Theatres across Canada, and on DVD.
Born in Seattle, Washington USA; raised in Vancouver, British Columbia Canada; Bruce is truly a North American performer. His parents took him to all forms of theatre (Musicals, Shakespeare, Ballet, Opera, The Bunraku Puppet Theatre of Japan, etc.) and at an early age he was hooked. Bruce studied drama in high school, and decided to persue acting as a career by joining the University of British Columbia's BFA in Acting program. While there he studied with some wonderful teachers, each of whom had a unique specialty (Charles Seigel, graduate of the Yale School of Drama; Dr. John Brockington, specialist in British Drama/Comedy and Musical Theatre; Dr. Klaus Strassman, specialist in German Expressionism; and Dr. Erroll Durbach, Ibsen scholar.) With this broad spectrum of training under his belt, Bruce decided never to act again and joined the school's MFA in Directing Program.
Upon graduation with both a BFA in Acting and an MFA in Directing, Bruce auditioned for the Original Canadian Company of LES MISERABLES, for a hoot -- he was cast as a swing -- and the rest is history.
Bruce already has three Broadway credits to his name: JANE EYRE, THE MUSIC MAN and ANYTHING GOES (a benefit for Lincoln Center Theater). He was nominated for a Dora Award in 2004 (Toronto's TONY®) for his performance as Adolpho Pirelli in SWEENEY TODD (CanStage). He has appeared in leading roles across Canada and the U.S.
His original musicals WILDE TALES and HARD HATS: The Musical have been produced in Canada and the U.S.
His New CD, Keepin' Out Of Mischief, and his debut CD, Lucky to be Me, are both available online at iTunes and through various music retailers. He is a member of MACnyc, Chicago Cabaret Professionals, and Canadians for a Canadian Cabaret.
